The Vizier by Haefen

Who is the Vizier?

Greetings traveller, my name is Irving. I am the Vizier, owner of Han of Harmony.

What does “Vizier” mean?

Vizier means “bearer of burden” or “to help.” It is a term for a high-ranking minister in some Muslim countries today. In medieval times, the Vizier helped the Sultan to bear his burden of rule by running state affairs. He served as a minister and an adviser to the Sultan.

Why did I choose “Vizier” as a pen name for Han of Harmony?

The role of the adviser suits me best. I enjoy helping people to manage change better by making the best choice in any situation. Making poor choices in any area of life can cost you dearly. The cost can be mental, emotional, financial or material. As far as I can, I always try my best to help people to avoid poor choices. This is the main reason why I chose “Vizier” as a pen name for my blog. It suits my nature perfectly.

I love solving human problems. I love looking at a situation to discern the best choices and actions possible. Here, being able to foresee the outcome of choices and actions helps a great deal. I know I have much to offer to all who seek my advice.

Using the Vizier as my pen name has another use. It allows me to refer to myself in the third person should the need arise. One instance would be titles for my articles. Whenever I have difficulty thinking of a title, I just put my pen name in it haha!

What does “Han” mean?

A “Han” is a roadside inn where travellers can rest and resupply after a long journey. Due to the many people who passed through, the Han was also a great place to gain information. Here people could find out the latest news from others. During medieval times, the many Hans along the Silk Road supported the flow of commerce.

Han is a Turkish word also known as caravanserai.

Why did I name my blog Han of Harmony?

Life is a journey for us all. Along the way, we are bound to have good times and bad times. During challenging periods, it would be great to find a place to rest and recharge. This place is Han of Harmony.

Here, you will gain insights on how to manage change and challenges from my articles. If that is not enough, you may also “Ask the Vizier” for help to deal with your problems. I will be more than happy to assist you. With these two steps, you will be able to restore harmony to your life. Then, you may continue on your journey with confidence and peace of mind.

More about Han of Harmony

Han of Harmony is a record of my life experiences thus far. As an INFJ, I have always been concerned about finding ways and means to manage life and its challenges. I have also been trying to master my emotions and myself. What you read here at Han of Harmony is the fruits of my labour. It has not been an easy journey for me. But you don’t have to go through what I did to learn what I know. By sharing my experiences and thoughts with you, I hope you can benefit from it as well. This after all is the way humanity progresses; by building on the experiences of others.

My philosophy is simple. Learn, read and take what appeals to you and put the rest aside. Depending on the stage of life you are at, not everything you read here will be immediately relevant. That is ok. When the time is ripe, other blog posts may become relevant to you. I have recorded my experiences here so that you can refer to it whenever you wish. It is my hope that you too can live an inspired life in harmony with change.

  1. I love that you use the word Sultan in your about page. Ah how very Persian! It is nice to meet you Irving, but I’d rather call you The Vizier!

    • Hi Farnoosh,

      Thanks for stopping by.

Please feel free to call me whatever you are comfortable with. I am comfortable with either Irving or Vizier.

If you love my usage of the word Sultan on my about page, you will be thrilled to read an article where I write about a Sultan and his friendship. Hehe, a whole article devoted to a Sultan and his friendship. Imagine that. ;)

I have yet to think of a story to write about a Persian Sultan, but rest assured I will do so eventually since I love Persia as well. :)

  2. Dear Vizier,
You don’t use Twitter? How come? I wanted to Tweet your page and tag your twitter handle…what about a Facebook fan page where I can support you more? Beautiful writing, please keep it up!!!!

    • Hi Farnoosh,

No I don’t use twitter or have a facebook fanpage for Han of Harmony at the moment. I was more concerned about filling my site with content. But since you have mentioned it and since it has been at the back of my mind, I shall look into these areas during the coming weeks. When it is up I will be sure to let you know. Thank you for your support and suggestions! They mean a lot to me! :)

  3. Here’s the idea that convinced me on both accounts and finally pushed me over: You can reach more people with your message if you are on the mediums people use (Facebook and Twitter the most powerful) – and that you want to do. More people should know about your writing. I’ll help you spread your beautiful writing….! And you are very welcome but it’s my pleasure really! :)

  5. I just found out I am an INFJ, too! Still figuring out what that means.

  6. Hello there,
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and reading and commenting too. As you know I’m an INFJ too and I’m wondering if you heard of the introvert zone? http://introvertzone.com/ It looks very interesting. Another online friend brought it to my attention but I haven’t had time to check it out as I have had computer issues. It’s good to meet you.
    Happy blogging!

    • Hi Time Thief,

It is good of you to stop by. I have never heard of the introvert zone, but I did check it out and I must say I love the author’s writing style. Thank you for bringing the introvert zone to my attention. It looks like a great place for me to leave comments too. :)

That’s exactly my philosophy and experience. There are only so many lessons you can learn at a time anyway.
alice hive recently posted..So- who is this blogger and how is she qualified to talk about personal developmentMy Profile

    • Hi Alice,

I am glad that we share the same philosophy and experience. It is a good outlook to have in life since there are many lessons to learn. Everything will unfold at its own time and place.

Thank you for your comments! :)

  8. Dear Vizier,

I am glad to meet another countryman online. How strange can it get? Living in the same country but yet only connecting online. But I guess, online connection is much more powerful for us to be more authentic. I know I am. I write more than I speak these days.

Thank you for your story. I was linked to you through Farnoosh’s blog. We have a very similar starting point. Not surprising given the education system that we have gone through in Singapore. I still do not agree with many things we are doing in our system. Now, having gone through it myself and been a proponent as a teacher myself, I am seeing the next generation go through the same thing except worse. When I look at my two little ones who is about to go into school soon, I shrudder at the thought that they have to go through this. From the academic focus to the after school hour enrichment and tuition. I think this is surely not the way to be schooled. We are all just part of a larger system trying to produce what society thinks they want, not what we want.

For you it was a 20 plus search before enlightenment. For me, I have wait nearly 40 years before taking my life back. Too late? Better late then never. I want that journey of a purpose driven life for my children early. They do not need to live other people’s life, they can live their. For those who start early, the fortune belongs to them. Fortune in all sense not just wealth. At the end of the day, it is how we make a difference that will determine our success and mark in life. Not what other people wants us to become.

I look forward to connecting with you again, and I invite you to visit my site and see my family and find out a bit more about a fellow countryman.

    Cheers

    • Hi Jimmy,

      Irving is fine.

I know what you mean about being more authentic online.

I don’t think it is ever too late to start being more aware of the world around us. As you say, it is how we use this awareness to make a difference that will determine our success in life. I am sure that under your guidance, your kids will see the world very differently. :)

Thank you for sharing your lovely comments! :)
