Have you ever faced a confusing situation where you did not know what to do or how to manage? Have you ever focused on a goal to the point that it compromised your judgement? Have your fears and doubts prevented you from taking decisive action when you should have?

You need inner clarity to manage any challenge you face. Without this inner brightness, it is akin to groping about in the dark, hoping to stumble upon an exit. At key points when you cannot afford to make mistakes, you are likelier to make many that will cost you dearly. How then can you maintain your clarity even in the most trying of times?

I am sure we have all taken hard hits from life at one point or other. It could be due to unexpected misfortunes. Or it could be due to hardships faced in trying to achieve a goal or to make a dream a reality. Yet we cannot and must not allow the hits we take to keep us down for good. We must reach deep within ourselves to find the strength to stand up and carry on especially when the going gets tough.

From personal experience, I have relied on three pillars to keep me going no matter what. Now I shall share them with you.

In our world today, people want to feel positive and happy. No one wants to feel negative emotions like pain, anger, depression, doubt or fear. This is rightly so for negative emotions taken to extremes can be harmful for us.

Yet, there is a time, place and reason for everything. If something happens that causes you to feel negative emotions, it is ok to feel the way you do. Trying to struggle against or suppress what you feel will only cause more problems for you. If you resist what you feel, you are going against the flow instead of with it. This requires continuous effort on your part that may be hard to sustain.

But this is not sincere support. In any case, you will never be able to win hearts and minds in this manner. Instead, this lack of true support may cause problems for you in the future. For example, people might withdraw their support for you at key points due to a lack of loyalty.

What should you do in this case? You must move people with your sincerity. Specifically, you must show them your true heart.

I have always liked to read. It is through the writings and records of others that I can see and experience things that are not possible otherwise. Take history for example. By reading the writings of long ago, I am able to travel the world to bygone eras in a flash.

But history is not the only thing I like to read. What I really appreciate is letters from loved ones. Our time here on Earth is finite. We never know which precious moment will be our last. Yet for some strange reason, we do not make full use of each moment. We do not let our loved ones know how much we appreciate them as often as we should. While telling them verbally is the minimum requirement, it is better to let them know through letters from time to time. It is only through writing that we can immortalize our thoughts and feelings.

As 2011 ends and 2012 approaches, it is a time to reflect. Despite the festive season, not all is rosy in the world today. Many of the major powers are facing problems of their own and how they manage will affect the rest of the world. This situation can be a cause for worry because they do not seem to be managing well.

While a little worry makes you cautious and instils prudence, too much worry can cripple you. For much of my life, I was a worrier. When faced with a problem whose outcome mattered to me, I could spend countless hours brooding over the worst-case scenarios.

But worrying alone does not change things. This was a lesson that I took many years to learn. I still worry today, but I no longer do so in excess. Instead, by understanding the nature of worry, I ensure that it does not work against me. How then can you deal with worry in a more effective way?

I stood in the eye of the storm and calmly watched the chaos and confusion around me. When an opening appeared, I acted quickly to seize it. Everything I did had a specific goal. I was truly living in the moment and acting as the situation required. I made almost no wasted movement and did not do more than necessary. I knew exactly what I needed to do and when to do it. Because I could see and follow the flow of the energy around me, I achieved my goal with ease and very little hassle. What was my goal in this case? It was to order a plate of fish and chips for lunch.
