Getting Hit by Wikipedia

“The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!” -Rocky Balboa to his son

I am sure we have all taken hard hits from life at one point or other. It could be due to unexpected misfortunes. Or it could be due to hardships faced in trying to achieve a goal or to make a dream a reality. Yet we cannot and must not allow the hits we take to keep us down for good. We must reach deep within ourselves to find the strength to stand up and carry on especially when the going gets tough.

From personal experience, I have relied on three pillars to keep me going no matter what. Now I shall share them with you.

True Heart by Fangol

There will be instances in life that require you to win over people who oppose you and gain their sincere support. It is possible to gain compliance through bribes, fear and the use of force. But this is not sincere support. In any case, you will never be able to win hearts and minds in this manner. Instead, this lack of true support may cause problems for you in the future. For example, people might withdraw their support for you at key points due to a lack of loyalty.

What should you do in this case? You must move people with your sincerity. Specifically, you must show them your true heart.

Hexagram 47 Oppression

Hexagram 47 by Ben Finney

Times of adversity are the reverse of times of success, but they can lead to success if they befall the right man. When a strong man meets with adversity, he remains cheerful despite all danger, and this cheerfulness is the source of later successes; it is that stability which is stronger than fate. He who lets his spirit be broken by exhaustion certainly has no success. But if adversity only bends a man, it creates in him a power to react that is bound in time to manifest itself.

No inferior man is capable of this. Only the great man brings about good fortune and remains blameless. It is true that for the time being outward influence is denied him, because his words have no effect. Therefore in times of adversity it is important to be strong within and sparing of words.

-Hexagram 47 from The I-Ching or Book of Changes Translated by Richard Wilhelm, Cary F. Baynes. New Jersey: Princeton University Press, 1997.

Happy Time by Lusi

Everyone is happy to attain large successes in life. This could be an important goal like having a happy family, getting a job promotion or closing a big business deal. With that in mind, here are some reasons why small successes matter.

Heroes can be a great source of inspiration when the going gets tough. Carefully chosen heroes can remind us of the qualities we should have and why we must fight on. Therefore, it is important to have a few inspirational sources to draw from when needed. One of my favourite sources is history. I love to read about great leaders, men who defied the odds and refused to give up. Their willpower, personal characteristics and motivation are just the thing I need when I am down. I admire many people and characters, but there are few whom I would consider heroes. After careful thought, here are the four that made the cut and the reasons why.

Inspired by Chris O’Neill

Inspiration is a wondrous thing. On days when I am uninspired, I feel lethargic and I simply cannot come up with any idea to save my life. I recently came across an interview that Mike Tyson gave and found it to be candid and moving. Most of us are aware of Mike Tyson. We know of his spectacular rise to stardom as a boxing champion. We also know how he lost it all when his life unravelled due to his personal problems. The media covered much of Tyson’s struggles from his failed marriages to drugs and a whole host of public embarrassments. It seemed like Tyson would never get out of the deep dark pit he was in.

Yet today, at the ripe old age of 44, Mike Tyson is a changed man. He has tasted almost all that life has to offer. He has known poverty and wealth, success and failure, love and loss. These experiences have humbled him. Although his inner struggles still plague him, Tyson is making a persistent effort to turn his life around this time for good.
